What this is
Kochi Directory covers 300 organisations across 17 categories and 63 localities of Kochi (Ernakulam), Kerala. It is run by one person here in Kochi — there is no call centre, no sales floor and nobody who will cold-call you. That 300 splits two ways: 51 businesses, 47 of which currently hold the verified badge, and 249 public institutions — government offices, hospitals, transport and utilities — listed from public sources as a service to residents. Institution listings are neither verified nor affiliated with us, and are labelled as such on every page. Every listing carries structured data readable by Google and AI assistants.
Verification policy
Verification applies to business listings only, and it is a documented desk check against published sources — not an audit and not an inspection. Every business listing is reviewed by hand before going live, and the reviewer checks three things:
- Identity — the business genuinely exists and operates under the listed name.
- Contact — the phone, email and website belong to the business.
- Location — the business operates from the listed Kochi locality.
The ✓ badge then stays gated on that evidence still being there. A listing displays it only while it carries a public presence the business publishes itself — its own website, or an official account it runs — and at least one direct way to reach it: a phone number, an email address or a street address. That rule is deliberately mechanical rather than a matter of memory: a record nobody can reach is a record nobody can re-check, so it stays listed without the badge instead of borrowing a claim we cannot stand behind today. 4 of the 51 business listings sit in that state right now.
What this is not: nobody visits the premises, and we do not inspect registration documents for a listing we compiled ourselves. Documents come in only when an owner claims a listing through the provider portal, and there is exactly one verification tier today — the ✓ check described above. That opt-in process asks for business registration (a GST certificate, Udyam or a Shops & Establishment licence — or proof of work, for a freelancer), owner identity proof, address proof, and the category licence where the category is regulated: FSSAI for food, clinical registration for healthcare, K-RERA for real estate. Documents are seen only by the reviewing editor and are deleted after the decision. Verification cannot be bought. Listings that fail re-verification are marked pending or removed. Spot an error? Report it — corrections ship fast.

Editorial awards
The Gold List, Editor’s Choice and Heritage badges are editorial judgments, deliberately scarce, and never for sale. Most listings will never carry one; that is what makes them mean something.

Kochi Directory is an independent, privately operated information service covering Kochi and the Ernakulam district of Kerala, spanning 17 categories and 63 localities. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or authorised by any government body, and an institution page here is never the official website of that institution. There is no call centre and no helpline number, so the way to reach the team is by email, at admin.kochidirectory@gmail.com.
What does verified mean on a Kochi Directory listing?
Verified applies only to private business listings, 47 of the 51 on the site today, and it means a person checked three things by hand before the page went live. Identity, that the business genuinely exists and operates under the listed name. Contact, that the phone, email and website belong to it. Location, that it operates from the listed Kochi locality. A listing we cannot reach by any published route does not carry the badge, verification cannot be bought, and listings that later fail re-verification are marked pending or removed. The 249 public institution pages are a separate category and are not verified in this way.
Are the government office and hospital pages the official websites of those institutions?
No. Public institution entries are compiled from publicly available sources as a reference for residents, and Kochi Directory is not affiliated with, endorsed by or authorised by any of them. Every institution page is labelled a public institution listing and is not verified the way a business listing is. For anything binding, such as a fee, a deadline or a document requirement, check with the institution directly.
Can a business pay to be verified or to rank higher in the listings?
No. Verification is an editorial check rather than a product, so it cannot be bought, and businesses are not charged to rank higher in the organic results. Fake reviews and fabricated ratings are never published, and businesses are not locked into contracts. Premium placement is handled separately from verification status and from organic ranking and is enquiry based, so email admin.kochidirectory@gmail.com to ask about the current listing and premium-placement plans.
What are the Editors Choice and Heritage badges?
They are editorial judgments made in house, alongside the Kochi Gold List, and like the Gold List none of them is for sale. Editors Choice marks a listing the team rates particularly highly. Heritage marks a long-established institution that has shaped the city, such as Kayees Rahmathulla Hotel, trading in Mattancherry since 1948. Badges apply only to business listings and never to public institutions.
Where does the information about government offices and hospitals come from?
Of the 300 listings, 249 are public institutions such as government offices, hospitals, transport hubs and utilities, compiled from publicly available sources as a reference for residents of Ernakulam. Kochi Directory does not verify these and is not affiliated with them, so each page is labelled a public institution listing and shows the month it was last checked against public sources. Addresses, timings, phone numbers and services can change without notice, so confirm anything critical with the institution directly.
How can I tell whether a listing is a verified business or a public institution?
Every page says which it is. A verified business carries the verified badge and a line saying it was last verified by Kochi Directory, and it has cleared the manual identity, contact and location check. A public institution carries a neutral public institution label and a line saying it was last checked against public sources, and it is not eligible for any editorial badge. Of the 300 entries, 51 are business listings and 249 are public institutions.
What happens to my contact details if I enquire through a listing?
There is no enquiry form sitting in the middle. A listing shows the contact details the business itself published, so a call, an email, a click through to its website, or a WhatsApp message where a mobile number is listed, goes straight to the business. Contact details are not sold and enquiries are not shared with competitors. If your personal contact details appear on a listing and you want them taken down, use the privacy request option in the report form on any listing page, or write to admin.kochidirectory@gmail.com.
