Vypin is a barrier island roughly 27 km long lying between the Arabian Sea and the Kerala backwaters, part of Kochi and reached by the Goshree bridges from Marine Drive as well as by ferry from Fort Kochi. Its length is shared among gram panchayats including Elamkunnapuzha, Njarakkal and Pallippuram, and it holds the 46 m Puthuvype lighthouse, the tallest in Kerala, along with the Munambam fishing harbour at its northern end.
